Here's an unfired Colt AR-15A2 Government Carbine. This is a Law Enforcement Carbine (Model LE6520) and the right side of the receiver is marked 'Restricted Military/Government/Law Enforcement/Export Use Only' as applied during the 1994-2004 'Assault Rifle Ban'.

I've had this since I believe the mid to late 80's. It is in excellent condition and has been fired very little since I have owned it. I've never been into AR15's and traded a Remington shotgun for this back in the 80's. I know next to nothing about this rifle except what I was told which is this.

A fellow at the lgs looked at it and said it was made in transition from pre-ban to post ban in between or something and has a heavy barrel but isn't marked as such. I have no idea but may sell it or trade. I prefer the older military arms from WWI or WWII. I would appreciate any info on this and a possible ball park value. It's a Colt AR15 A2 Gov't Model Ser GS 008411 1/7 twist. Here's a few pics. Best regards.

Unless you are absofreakinglootly desperate for cash, keep it. I have a similar rifle that I bought new in 1988.back then I didn't pay to much attention to what 'Features' it had or didn't have.but recently I started building my own and got the retro bug (early rifles) so I asked some folks just what I had. It seems there were some issues at Colt going from the A1 models to the A2's during that time frame late 80's early 90'smy rifle looks like yours has the 'slab side' lower like yours but I have a A1 upper and the rest is A2, barrel, hand guards, stock, front sight base and flash hider. It's like Colt was using up the left over A1 parts while transitioning to the A2 versions.people call these rifles 'transition rifles'don't know this info as fact. But it's what I've been told.and like the other folks have said.
