Beretta Manufacture Date By Serial Number

Also found this using the proof stamp:Beretta firearms produced in Italy carry a proof mark for the year of production. 2006 honda vt1100c2 service manual. The chart below is used to identify the year by this mark.
If it is an Italian firearm go to Beretta Web - Home Page and click the link on the left column 'Catalogo Nazionale Armi'. It will show date codes from 1920 to 2007. The roman numerals and letter codes are on the right side of the trigger guard in front of the trigger. These codes cover any firearm made in Italy.
For recent pistols this mark is usually located on the frame near the trigger guard, for older pistols, the mark is on the slide or on the frame behind the grip area. Shotguns have this mark stamped on the barrel near the chamber. I realize this is an old thread, but I had a related question regarding the serial number on my Beretta A302 12ga shotgun. The serial number on the receiver does not match the number on the barrel. Is this normal for a gun coming from the manufacturer.

I have had the gun since my father bought it new for me around 1983 or 84 I believe. The only thing I have ever done to it was to have the barrel threaded for a removable choke. I wanted to find out info on it and went to the Beretta site to look up the actual serial number, but nothing came up on the site for the number on the receiver. Any thoughts? Thanks, Henry.
